尽管天野很享受一到六代的人物设计和插画工作,但随着1997年《最终幻想VII》迎来新的PlayStation游戏机时代,因为作品转向3D化,天野喜孝的画风相对较难执行,故开始由另一位艺术家—野村哲也负责角色设计。
游戏公司希望在视觉识别上保持统一,因此天野仍为游戏的主要视觉系统创造者,他从野村创造的角色作品中,进行大量的插图绘制工作。
“《最终幻想VII》可称得上是该系列游戏的复兴,首先是从2D转换到了3D,且在经历任天堂游戏机的这些年后去了索尼,换了全新的平台和制造商。也因此,我认为艺术风格上的调整,只是为了打破过去形象的计划之一。”
Character Transformation – Final Fantasy VII
Yoshitaka Amano had enjoyed his work with the first 6 games. In 1997, the seventh Final Fantasy game was launched for the new PlayStation era. Given the new 3D mandate, Amano’s drawing style was hard to be implemented. Therefore, a new artist Tetsuya Nomura took charge of the character design.
The game studio hoped the visuals to remain in a consistent style. Therefore, Amano continued to be the main visual creator. He continued to do a lot of illustrations based on Tetsuya Nomura’s character design.
“Final Fantasy VII can be seen as the renaissance of the series. First, the game is now 3D instead of 2D. Then the series have moved from Nintendo to Sony, changes happening to platform and developer. The change of artistic style is part of the plan to make a breakthrough.”
